Player Summary:
6th-year senior with an athletic build, lengthy tangibles, and a flexible lower half. Has displayed positive growth potential since arriving at Wazzu in 2018. Entered fall camp of his true freshman season at 215 but grew to 245 by 2021. Has ample room to add mass to his frame if necessary. High upside athlete with proficient initial quickness, explosion, and acceleration off the ball. Operates with notable ankle/knee bend and exhibits intriguing twitch and hand use. Boasts strong, quick hands and an effective push-pull, cross-chop, and double swipe. Most effective when he can beat offensive tackles to the spot, work a move, and run the arc. Flashes quality burst-to-close when he is in pursuit of the QB. More of a speed rusher than a power rusher. Lacks high-level play strength to control the POA consistently. Underutilizes his bull rush and long arm when rushing the passer. Uses sufficient straight-line speed and a high motor to chase the ball from sideline to sideline. Secure tackler in open space and a condensed backfield. Concerned about his edge discipline and stack-shed ability at the next level. Lacks a high ceiling as a run defender due to his size and play strength deficiencies. Looks to have some position versatility to slot in at the 9-tech OLB spot in a 3-4 defense. Could permanently move to OLB at the next level, given his athleticism, motor, and play speed.
Scheme Fit:
5/7-Tech DE or 5-2 9-Tech OLB
Power Statement:
Stone is a pass-rushing edge defender with explosive get-off, swift burst-to-QB, and a diverse set of pass rush moves. Smooth athlete who moves well in open space and bends the edge fluidly.
