The Patriots would fall 24 to 17 vs. the Miami Dolphins, it wasn’t the best of nights for New England fans. There were multiple mistakes made early in the game which forced the Patriots to play catch up. In this article, Karver Jordan is going to talk about three things that the Patriots will need to fix.

Starting off early, not late

New England’s offense was awful to watch vs. Miami’s defense, plain and simple. The Offensive Line was the worst part of the whole game, without blocking the plays will not work. The interior of the offensive line was just getting blown up every play it felt like.

The Patriots offense could not run the ball at all, New England has always been known for having a good run game to lean on however, this was not the case in their week two matchup vs. the Miami Dolphins. Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott have struggled at breaking a long run. Stevenson is coming off a one-thousand-yard season, he isn’t playing like it due to the offensive line issues. The young RB had 15 carries for 50 yards while adding a touchdown late in the game, he [Stevenson] had 3.3 yards per carry on average. Not great numbers being truthful, we need better from our starting running back. Ezekiel Elliott has had limited reps, five carries for 13 yards is horrendous, and it was awful to watch. The Patriots Offense has gotten no push from the veteran offensive line.

Mac Jones and the wide receivers/tight ends have had a tough time getting open, part of that is on them, and part of it is on the offensive line collapsing. DeMario Douglas, Kendrick Bourne, DeVante Parker, and Hunter Henry have done a phenomenal job at getting open and helping out Mac Jones. Bill O’Brian seems to have changed Mac Jones’ passing ability, the QB completed 31 of his 42 passes for 231 yards with a touchdown and an interception. DeVante Parker and Hunter Henry both led the team with Six receptions and 50 + Yards. Hunter Henry got a touchdown late in the game. The Patriots offense has a lot of work to do, they will continue to grow and get better.

Patriots defense holds off Tyreek Hill but struggles in run game

First off, Props to Rookie DB Christian Gonzalez for locking down a top-three receiver in Tyreek Hill. New England got themselves a STUD in Gonzalez, the rookie got an interception in the Miami week two match-up.

The run defense was horrendous, the Patriots defensive line was getting pushed back like nothing. The scheme Bill Belichick came up with was a complete fail, Miami completely destroyed New England on the ground.

Matthew Judon got a sack vs. the Dolphins, Judon showed up during the game and played his heart out.

We will need more from this Patriots team for many games to come.

Karvers Final Thoughts

We need to improve at all aspects of the game, Offense, Defense, Special Teams, and coaching. We need to be better, Plain and Simple. New England hasn’t been playing their best football however, it is never too late to turn it around.
