Player Summary:
Jones is an RS SR from Magee, MS. He spent his freshman season playing at MSST before transferring to FLST. He was voted Most Improved Defensive Player by his teammates after the 2022 season. Has one INT returned for a TD through four weeks of the 2023 season. He is an experienced and versatile DB who aligns primarily as the slot CB for FLST but is also capable of playing on the outside as both the field and boundary corner. Very good size and length for the position. He has a well-built muscular frame with long arms and legs. He showcases very good athletic ability and movement skills as well as quick feet and above-average stop and start ability. Shows good top end speed and acceleration to turn and run with opposing wide receivers. In man coverage, he displays fluid hips and transitions smoothly out of his backpedal. He remains patient in coverage and allows routes to develop and he uses above-average recovery speed to make up ground on the receiver. He has great instincts and anticipation allowing him to read and react quickly to make plays on the ball. Burst and closing speed are very good. In zone coverage, he plays with good depth and shows a very good understanding of his coverage assignments with good football IQ. He rarely seems to be caught out of position. Plays with solid technique in press coverage with average physicality. Does a good job of staying in phase with receivers. Displays adequate ball skills. He is willing to help in run support but struggles to make solo tackles. Oftentimes he will drop his head and tackle low, allowing the ball carries to break free. Displays average play strength and shies away from contact at times. Overall, he has the physical tools and traits needed to be a contributor at the next level.
