An impressive surprise Saturday night for the Florida Gators
An impressive surprise Saturday night for the Florida Gators. The Gators showed up and put on a show for everyone, as they had a prime SEC matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers.
The Gators were able to take down the eleventh-ranked Tennessee Volunteers 29-16.
Florida showed tremendous improvement from the first game of the season to now. Both sides of the ball were clicking. Graham Mertz was 19 of 24 passing completions for 166 yards and one touchdown. But the killer that wore down Tennessee, was Florida’s run game. The Gators rushed for a total of 183 yards. 172 of that came from Trevor Etienne. Trevor showed off the type of athlete everyone knows he is, as he broke through tackles and beat defenders on the edge.
Florida’s defense wasn’t too shy from making plays as well. Desmond Watson showcased his strength early in this match up bringing pressure to Joe Milton III. Milton couldn’t shake the pressure from Watson and threw an interception giving all momentum to the Florida Gators.
The fourth quarter hit and the Gators stuck with the run game controlling the clock. During the last four minutes of the game, Florida goes for it on fourth down and converts it to drain the clock down to two minutes and any hopes Tennessee may have had to make a comeback. And with the Volunteers last drive the Gators forced a turnover on downs.
This was an all-around good team win for the Florida Gators. We got a taste of what this offense can be. As long as they don’t stall out, they can be a force within the SEC.
