Player Summary:
Senior. RG starter. Strong, steady, consistent interior OL who is a good run blocker and above average pass protector. Lacks ideal height and has a stocky frame, but has developed hamstrings and quads, would like to see his ankles in-person. As a run blocker, he is good. Has a good and quick first step and displays ability to fire forward at the 2nd level. Shows good strike timing with his hands when blocking opposing DLs. Can encircle OZ runs and neutralize defenders. Has ability to unlock his hips and get vertical push in short yardage. Last year had a problem with latching onto 2nd level defenders and driving them off the ball, and struggled to find someone to block in space, but has improved that based on Duke game this year. As a pass protector, he is above average. Displays inside hand placement, flashes a punch, and good use of hands. Plays with a wide base in pass pro, keeps defenders between his feet, can read and react to twists/stunts. Needs to work on playing with better posture instead of bending at the waist. Will overset, at times, and needs to play under control and stay within his frame. Has good stamina. Good effort – plays hard even when the team is down, stays in the hunt, and looks for someone to block. Great finisher – flashes some nastiness and mental toughness.
Scheme Fit:
OG.
Power Statement:
Although he lacks ideal height, Christian is a legitimate prospect. He is good and effective run blocker, and above average as a pass protector. If he improves his abilities at the second level, winds up with the right coaching staff, and gets his body in shape, he could be a high-value pick in the draft.
