Player Summary:
Brennan is a Graduate transfer from Virginia who started in 20 of 31 games while at Virginia University—adequate height and weight with a firm and athletic build above average arm length and hand size. Armstrong displays solid speed and quickness in the pocket, avoiding defenders and escaping into open space. An athletic, versatile QB who can stay in the pocket and deliver the ball down the field or make plays with his legs. You can really see this on display with specifically designed QB runs, bootlegs, and getting out of the pocket to run for extra yards. He is a highly competitive player who does not shy from contact if a first down is within reach. He has also shown the ability to stay in the pocket, under pressure, and deliver a catchable ball. Adequate arm strength on deep balls and intermediate passes. Very accurate on medium and short in-cutting routes, struggles to place the ball on deeper routes, and fades in the red zone. Armstrong has Good FBI as he is asked to go through full-field reads often and half-field reads for RPOs which he processes quickly. He struggles with full progression reads as he holds the ball longer to make sure he has a receiver open.
Scheme Fit:
Quick hitting, run-and-shoot scheme, that allows him opportunities to use his athleticism to extend plays and move the pocket.
Power Statement:
A very athletic QB who extends the play with his legs, runs for yardage, and avoids defenders. Very accurate in the short to intermediate passing game within cutting routes and will stand in the pocket to deliver the ball or run and deliver a blow to the defender.
