Player Summary:

Fifth-year senior with three years of starting experience at the STAR position in Miami’s defensive backfield. Possesses undersized height/weight measurements and adequate, but compensates for size deficiencies with a physical play style in coverage and as a tackler. Operates with high-level play speed and proficient reactionary quickness & click-to-close ability. Blends speed and physicality well in man coverage; Displays good use of hands off the line and at the top of the route to keep his cushion tight. Boasts great catch-up speed to recover and re-establishing leverage while in phase. Flashes strong mental and physical toughness as a run defender and hook/curl/seam-to-flat nickel. Secure and aggressive tackler in one-on-one situations in the open field. Willing to play close to the LOS in press-man and comfortable dropping down into the box as a third linebacker. Decent instincts, awareness, and read & react to put himself into position to make a play on the ball. Adequate ball judgment, questionable ball skills, and lowball production (1 INT in 30-plus appearances over the last three seasons). Struggles to come up with interceptions due to poor hands. Lacks the size, length, and ball skills to compete for time as an outside corner but boasts intriguing upside as a run defender and press-man corner in the slot. He would benefit from adding 10-15 lbs of mass to his 170-lb frame.

Scheme Fit:

4-2-5/3-3-5 Nickel Cornerback

Power Statement:

Te’Cory Couch is a tough-minded, undersized defensive back with quality man coverage ability, strong tackling ability, and notable play speed at the STAR spot.
