Player Summary:

Samson Evans is a 6th-year graduate student RB with one full season of starting experience. Transfer from Iowa prior to the 2020 season after not appearing in any games. He is a north-south style runner who is a wrecking ball in the open field. Possesses great height and excellent weight for the position with a very muscular frame. Scans the defensive front prior to the snap. When he takes the ball, quick to read his blocks and will make swift decisions. Good decision-maker who utilizes his vision and quick processor to find holes in zone-blocking schemes. In both zone and gap schemes, will hit his hole with a solid burst and acceleration to gain additional yards than what his OL is giving him. Shows elite functional strength as he will charge through defenders and is very difficult to bring down. On contact, he keeps his feet churning and fights for significant yards after contact. Utilizes substantial competitiveness, physical toughness, and balance to force missed tackles in space, and leans forward to pick up more yardage when being brought down. Considerable ability as a blocker; physical in pass protection with a good base, sound technique, and his head on a swivel to identify and hold up much larger defenders. Solid receiving threat who is a reliable check-down option and can adjust his hands to different passes in his vicinity. A competitor who will throw additional blocks downfield to help set up running lanes for teammates. Displays adequate foot speed that will hinder his potential at the next level. Fringe athletic ability in a number of areas that hinders his movement skills. Shows tightness in his hips that makes it difficult for him to change direction. Struggles to make defenders miss in space with athleticism and needs to run through them to pick up additional yards. Not someone you should rely on to create separation as a downfield receiving option.

Scheme Fit:

Fits best as a one-cut RB at the next level.

Power Statement:

A tough, strong RB who can win as a runner, blocker, and passing option due to his mental processing ability, physical toughness at the POA, desire to fight for yards after contact, and competitiveness to make plays all over the field. He lacks in a few areas athletically, and his top-end speed could hinder his potential at the next level.
