Player Summary:
5th YR SR and rotational starter at DB where he shows elite position versatility playing both outside CB positions, SS and FS in the 3-3-5 and 2-4-5 Nickel defense of ALAU. He possesses average height, poor weight, good speed and a slender build. He is a solid athlete showing a combination of solid COD, balance, explosiveness, acceleration, lateral quickness and agility with solid top end play speed. He is solid overall in coverage. In off-man, he gets great depth in his backpedal and uses his solid play speed and AA to keep WR with average AA in front of him. In press-man, he matches the feet of his man and effectively uses his play speed to stay in phase with XWR with adequate acceleration down the field. He exhibits solid hip fluidity as he turns and bails in zone while reading the QB as he defends his third of the field in cover 3. He is solid against the run. He shows average FBI as he reads run/pass and displays above-average physical toughness as he disengages from WR with marginal play strength. He displays solid range and instincts taking the correct angle in pursuit. He plays at a good pad level and uses his solid explosiveness to make the tackle on RB with solid size and adequate AA. He displays solid ball skills as he quickly locates the ball, displays good closing speed to put himself in position and effectively times his hands as he disrupts the trajectory of the pass for a PBU. In addition, he displays good hands as he makes the interception. He exhibits very good competitive toughness both physically at the POA as well as mentally as he does not shy away from contact when attacking RB with good size against the run. Ordinary awareness while in zone coverage enables WR with good FBI to find the soft spot in his zone. Below-average power in his hand punch prevents him from re-routing WR with good size while in press-man and quickly disengaging from run blocks from WR with good play strength and length.
Scheme Fit:
FS due to his good ability against the run and in off-man.
Power Statement:
Tough, versatile player who plays well in coverage and against the run overall. Subpar play strength prevents him from re-routing XWR with good size in press-man and lack of quality awareness in zone allows WR with good FBI to find the soft spot.
