Pittman’s Pocket: Jackson State beats SC State in HBCU showdown

The MEAC/SWAC challenge is in the books, and it was a great one!

Jackson State defeated the legendary Buddy Pough and South Carolina State 37-7. It was Jackson State’s TC Taylor’s first win as a head coach at Jackson State, and his transfer quarterback had a big night.

Jason Brown the Small School Prospect on Draft Diamonds NFL 2024 Draft List, had a big game throwing for 361 yards and 3 TDs.

South Carolina State has two Freshman running backs that were solid. Kacy Fields #20, the 5’11, 195-pound true Freshman running back flashed with 3.7 yards a carry. Their other back Jawan Howell from Mooresville, North Carolina looked great as well. He looks absolutely a Diamond 💎 on the rise. Number 43 Godbolt was showing flashes for the Bulldogs as well and led the defense with a sack and a ton of pressures.

Irv Mullins had over 100 plus yards with a 46-yard touchdown in the first half. JSU dominated from early on in the game. Several players that stepped up were Jeremiah Williams, Devontae Davis, Isaac Peppers, and Rico Powers. Even True Freshman Phenom Isaiah Spencer #11 was showing up.

It was even amazing seeing Puff Daddy salute JSU with a Million dollars for the football program. The Celebrity Raper has shown huge support not just to the program, but the progress of HBCU excellence, support, and community commitment.

Ultimately Jackson State just came out and dominated the rematch of the 2021 Celebration Bowl.
