Pittman’s Pocket: More HBCU players impressed in NFL preseason

It has been an eye-opening week for NFL fans. It’s also been an eye-opener for NFL scouts, as fans have spotted HBCU players on NFL rosters standing out this first week of NFL preseason action.
Andrew Farmer had team-high 3 tackles and a Sack as a former Hula Bowl alumni, Farmer truly impressed Chargers Coaches and players finishing at the top of the defensive stat sheet. The Lane College product has been dominant over the past several years and was very exciting to watch.
Shaq Davis out of South Carolina State also has a decent day in New Orleans registering 2 catches for 20 yards. Each catch was a 10-yard catch and grab. The 6’5, 215-pound wideout can slowly become a star. The Saints may have stumbled upon an HBCU diamond.
Markquese Bell from FAMU had a phenomenal game with former Rattler teammate Isaiah Land. Both Rattlers made a solid impression. Come 2024 hopefully an NFL team will select another FAMU Rattler because they produce in the NFL. Bell finished with 10 tackles and a PBU. Land had a 26.4 rushing percentage against the quarterback.
Also, Jackson State James Houston had a big time game by rushing the QB, and flashing with his firs step. Houston has answered and is hoping to continue to make Jackson State and his beloved Detroit Lions more proud of him this upcoming season.
