Eight of the Greatest Trades in NFL History

We broke down the worst seven trades in NFL History yesterday, and now we wanted to talk about some of the greatest trades in the NFL.
So we went back to look at some of the best trades ever, and we feel it was led by the Packers trade for Brett Favre who would end up turning into one of the greatest QB’s of all time.
- Brett Favre Trade (1992): The Green Bay Packers traded a first-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for quarterback Brett Favre. Favre went on to become one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, leading the Packers to a Super Bowl victory and setting numerous records during his career.
- Marshall Faulk Trade (1999): The St. Louis Rams traded second and fifth-round picks to the Indianapolis Colts for running back Marshall Faulk. Faulk became a crucial part of the “Greatest Show on Turf” Rams offense, helping them win Super Bowl XXXIV and earning multiple MVP awards.
- Steve Young Trade (1987): The San Francisco 49ers traded second- and fourth-round picks to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for quarterback Steve Young. Young eventually took over as the starting quarterback from Joe Montana and went on to have a Hall of Fame career, winning three Super Bowls with the 49ers.
- Charles Haley Trade (1992): The Dallas Cowboys traded a pair of draft picks to the San Francisco 49ers for defensive end Charles Haley. Haley became a key player in the Cowboys’ dominant defense, helping them win three Super Bowls in the 1990s.
- Jerome Bettis Trade (1996): The Los Angeles Rams traded running back Jerome Bettis to the Pittsburgh Steelers for draft picks. Bettis became a legendary running back for the Steelers, earning several Pro Bowl selections and leading the team to a Super Bowl victory in his final season before retiring.
- Randy Moss Trade (2005): The Oakland Raiders traded wide receiver Randy Moss to the New England Patriots for a fourth-round pick. Moss had an incredible season with the Patriots, setting a single-season record for touchdown receptions and helping the team to an undefeated regular season.
- Joe Montana Trade (1993): The San Francisco 49ers traded quarterback Joe Montana and a third-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for a first-round pick. Montana led the Chiefs to the playoffs and provided valuable mentorship to their young quarterback, Steve Bono.
- Ronnie Lott Trade (1981): The San Francisco 49ers traded safety Ronnie Lott to the Oakland Raiders for draft picks. Lott was a key part of the 49ers’ success in the 1980s, winning four Super Bowls with the team.
These trades significantly impacted the franchises involved and contributed to the success of the players and teams. Each trade was instrumental in shaping the NFL landscape and producing memorable moments in the league’s history.
