Player Summary:
A 5-year letterman, a former transfer from Georgetown College (KY) of the NAIA, 1-year starter who has played in 26 career games and has 14 starts under his belt. He has a big body with big arms. Displays good burst upfield, bends well, has a solid bull rush that allows leverage inside and out, has ability to move OL back once his hand is inside and his arms extended. Has ability to restrict run lanes, has active hands to get OL out of position to put stress in the pocket. Athletic ability allows various pass rush moves to get to backfield, sticks outside foot coupled with the UOH, using inside shoulder to gain leverage to ensure stab move, speed rip and spin is effective off the edge or interior to funnel play to interior defense. Has good play strength. Displays willfulness to shed one-on-one blocks and engage runners at LOS. A solid, relentless motor. Hustles towards play and displays good COD when hips are open and fluid. Good play recognition. Maneuvers into different gaps to maximize opportunities to impact plays, attracting double teams that lead to teammates making plays. Does not do well with delayed combo blocks, can get washed and not focus on runner or movement of pocket. Does get too wide when lined up off edge in 6 technique, does not close space fast enough toward OL to make an impact on the LOS. Does take zero step vs bringing back foot up to increase burst and maintaining good pad level. Does not do well vs shifty athletic running QBs. Marginal COD impacts foot movement and the ability to close space effectively.
Scheme Fit:
3-4, 4-3 Defense, playing as a primary edge rusher with the athletic ability to play 2, 3, 3i, 4, 5 and 6 wide tech.
Power Statement:
A strong athletic edge rusher with a solid pass rush that penetrates backfields, and a consistent penchant for collapsing the pocket, coupled with an aggressive and relentless motor.
