Player Summary:

6’4”, 290-pound Defensive Tackle with the size and athleticism to feature in multiple alignments across the defensive line. Originally recruited as a Defensive End, yet gained 50 pounds of mass by his redshirt sophomore season. Lined up at Nose Tackle, 1-Tech, and 2i in 2022. Possesses high-level reactionary athleticism, fluid lateral quickness, and smooth mobility to scrape down the LOS. Big body that can penetrate narrow gaps using notable body control in tight spaces. Space-eater who works to maintain gap discipline. Decent explosiveness out of his get-off but flexible hips/ knees to dip under impending blocks. Instinctively eliminates cut blocks with quick, powerful hands off the ball. Uses a strong upper half and a firm base to dictate the POA in one-on-one situations but lacks the contact balance and block awareness to anchor double teams consistently. Will fill gaps to limit the run and utilize his impressive straight-line & closing speed to follow the ball from sideline to sideline. Displays a high motor and willingness to retrace his steps to chase the ball downfield. Offers a high upside as a pass rusher; Translates his sneaky play speed and acceleration into his pass-rushing skillset. Boasts an effective bull rush and swim move but lacks a diverse push-rush skillset to become a dominant interior pass rusher at the next level. A sufficient tackler who brings down ball carriers in a crowded backfield with ease. Less impressive of a tackler in the open field. Flashes a mean streak in spurts but lacks top-end physicality and nastiness in his game. Still, he provides solid physical traits, play strength, and athletic ability in the interior. Only played seven games due to injury in 2022 after earning All-Mountain West Honorable Mention the year prior. Will be intriguing to see how Godbout improves his stock with another complete season under his belt.

Scheme Fit:

1-Tech/2i Defensive Tackle in a 4-3 or 5-2 scheme

Power Statement:

Scheme-versatile Defensive Tackle who can take up space, plug gaps, and penetrate the backfield to limit run production. Intriguing pass rusher with good initial quickness off the ball and strong closing speed to pursue the quarterback.
