What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I started my career as a soccer player and my high school football coach said they needed a kicker and I tried out and it worked out for me,
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
The relationships and bonds I’ve made with the different teammates I’ve had on 2 different teams like a family.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My older brother, he got diagnosed with a brain tumor and got through 3 brain surgeries and he’s fine now and that taught me to just live in the moment.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
Our chance to take a 5th consecutive conference championship and make a deep run in the playoffs this year.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
Jake Elliott, the Eagles kicker, we have similar body types and kicking style so I would love to see what his mindset is.
What are your favorite things about playing football for Notre Dame College?
The culture we have as a program it’s like a brotherhood and it’s hard to beat being on a team that wins as much as we do and it’s a great environment.
What should we know about Cameron Shirkey the person?
I’m a hard worker, I’m going to put everything I have into what I do and have a positive outlook. I’m a very optimistic person and that’s how I look at life.
What sets you apart from other kickers?
My consistency, because I don’t have the strongest leg, but I replicate every kick I make and my mindset I have a short-term memory on the football field which some people have a problem with.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I kind of look at it as an opportunity to grow and I always keep a positive mindset because you will eventually get through it and get better.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A kid who is willing to give everything he has at 100 percent, bring a positive mindset and consistency.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
The work that goes into it, there’s never time off and the relationships you build throughout that.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Dom Buttazzoni, he steps up when needed and he gets the job done and is the best holder I’ve ever had.
