What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
My dad played in college, and I always loved the game. I love to compete and the relationships I’ve made along the way will impact my life forever.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
I’ve enjoyed numerous moments throughout my career. But being a part of the javelina program and turning it around would have to be number one on my list. When I got to this school in 2019 we were struggling with numerous issues. Now we are united and determined to be the best we can be and I can’t wait to see what this season is going to bring us.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My mom is everything to me. I wouldn’t be anywhere in this life without my mom. Since I started playing in little league days whether it was baseball or football, I can count on one hand the amount of games my mom has missed. No matter what she’s be dealing with in her life she continues to put me first and she’s my number one. I love my mom.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
I’m just really excited about the whole opportunity and can’t wait to see what we are going to accomplish this season. Everyone knows how talented this team is and God willing everyone stays heathy. We will be in a good position by the end of the season. I won’t take any moment for granted since it’s my last season as a hog. I just can’t stress enough how important this season is for all of the guys on the team.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
My choice would have to be George Kittle. When it comes to the TE position I don’t believe there are many guys in the game currently that does what he does. The way he blocks in the run game and has such precise route running he’s my favorite guy to watch at the position. That would be a honor to meet him. I was lucky enough to meet CJ Fiedorowicz and he taught me a lot about the position before I got to college.
What are your favorite things about playing football for Kingsville?
I really love the town how tight nit and small it is. I grew up in a little town 30 minutes south east of San Antonio called La Vernia. Where everybody knows everybody. I knew that I didn’t want to live in a big city and Kingsville is where I was meant to be. This town is special with all the history. For the longest time in this city the thing to do has been to come watch football on Saturday night. I’m just glad that as a team we have turned this winning tradition around. With that being said we are no where near where we want to be and where we are going to be in the near further. Under Coach Salinas we will get it done.
What should we know about Walker Ring the person?
From the very beginning I was a guy that does what’s best for the team whether that means me taking every snap or none I’m here to win football games. I didn’t start on varsity till I was a senior in high school. I was 5’6” when I was a freshman in high school. I had to wait and watch until my number was called and like they say you need to stay ready so you don’t have to get ready. I’ve always been blessed with a great support system and I just want to thank god for all the opportunities I’ve received throughout my life. I love the game, I love my coaches and I love my teammates.
What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
I can say I’ve been in a ton of different schemes in my career. All the way from the slot to the spread offense we run now. I had 4 head coaches in school and I’m on my second in college. I love the spread offense we run now, a lot of RPOs and that can’t be successful without great coaching and a great quarterback. We have both with Jacob and Coach Salinas. We get the ball to the great playmakers that we have and it’s a very unselfish offense that everyone can thrive in. So no question it is my favorite offense.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I just put all my trust in my lord and Savior. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. It doesn’t happen to you but to you. So every time struggle or slip up and I just turn to prayer to help me through it. That has got me to this point and will take me the rest of the way.
What would a team get in a player like you?
Like I said earlier I will do what’s best for the team no matter what it means for me. I want to win, at the end of the day, that’s what we play the game for. No opportunity is too small all I need is a chance to show what I can do.
What stands out about your film the most?
The way that I understand the scheme. I know where the play needs to hit and where I need to place my body and my man to help the play be successful. I play till the final whistle blows no matter the score. I genuinely love being in the trenches and moving grown men against their will. Just something about that feeling is exhilarating.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
I would have to say, Jacob Cavazos. A lot of people write him off because of his size but that guy is our QB. The way he gets hit and just keeps getting up. He’s a tremendous athlete and a better dude. He plays hard no matter what and continues to take the blame for negative outcomes. While giving the blame in positive situations. He’s a guy that every player wants on their team and makes you want to give him all that you have.
