Is Demario Douglas the next late-round Gem for the Patriots?

Demario Douglas is a player I would watch closely in the New England Patriots training camp. The sixth-round gem from Liberty is going to be a game-changer for the 2023-24 Patriots roster. Arguably one of the swiftest college players in recent memory. Let’s take a look at his last season at Liberty.

About Demario Douglas

Age: 22

Height and Weight: Five foot Eight inches (5’8”) 192 pounds

College: Liberty

Last College season:

Demario Douglas may not be the biggest player on the field, but he has one of the biggest hearts for the game. Douglas is always smiling when on the field and is one of the most dominant players on the field when he has the ball in his hands. In 2022,  the shifty wideout would haul in 79 receptions for 993 yards with six touchdowns. He would average 12.6 yards a reception. Douglas or also known as Pop would have a catch rate of 65.3% in 2022, pretty solid numbers. Douglas would get some reps on the special teams aspect and would have 365 yards on KR/PR.

Shrine Bowl with Patriots coaching staff:

The Patriots coaching staff was in charge for the East team this year for the Shrine Bowl. Demario Douglas was one of the players who was on that team and got some early practice from Troy Brown and Bill Belichick.

Rookie Season Preview:

Demario Douglas is going to be a gadget player for the Patriots, I see him making the 53 man roster and being the backup punt returner/ a nice weapon for the Patriots offense. In Rookie Mini Camp/OTAs Douglas was very promising and a quick learner.  The Pats should use that 4.44 40 yard dash speed this season on screens/Quick routes (Slants/Drags/Hitches/Curls) also on End arounds/Handoffs. Get Douglas in space, let him use his speed to beat the opposing defense. Troy Brown loves this kid, that is a very promising sign for New England fans.

Writer Final Thoughts:

I think Douglas is going to be a key piece to the Patriots roster and is going to be the next gem for the Patriots. He is going to be the biggest steal from this year’s draft, let Pop develop into something.
