Player Summary:
6th YR SR and 3 YR full-time starter at LB where he aligns at MIKE in the 4-3 heavy defense of MNWI. He possesses ordinary height with marginal weight and a powerful build. He is a good athlete showing a combination of good explosiveness, acceleration, lateral quickness and agility, solid COD and average balance with solid play speed. He is above-average against the run. He exhibits solid FBI as he quickly reads run/pass and exhibits average play strength with solid UOH as he disengages from TE and IOL with subpar UOH and physical toughness. He possesses good instincts as he navigates through traffic and takes the correct angle in pursuit. He possesses quality range that enables him to play SL to SL and exhibits good explosiveness and form as he makes the tackle on RB with solid size and AA preventing a big gain. He is solid in coverage overall. In zone, he quickly drops to defend the hook and curl zone as well as the deep third in Tampa 2 showing average awareness as he effectively patrols his zone with his good AA while reading the QB. In rare instances where he is in man, he displays the ability to carry TE with subpar play speed down the seam. He shows above-average ball skills as he does a good job of tracking the ball in the air before showing solid hands as he makes the interception. He displays good competitive toughness as he is not afraid to stick his nose in a pile as he makes the tackle. He plays with an above-average motor as he plays until the whistle consistently. Lack of quality play strength prevents him from quickly disengaging from OL with good grip strength and physical toughness. Lack of quality play speed allow RB with good acceleration to get behind him on wheel routes in man coverage as well as finishing up with a sack when rushing the QB.
Scheme Fit:
4-3 MIKE
Power Statement:
An intelligent, rangy player who excels against the run and is solid in zone coverage. Struggles to quickly disengage from IOL with good size and grip strength due to lack of quality play strength.
