New Jersey Generals win close battle vs division rival Philadelphia Stars

Written by Karver Jordan

The New Jersey Generals keep their playoff hopes alive after winning 37 to 33 against the Philadelphia Stars. Both teams played their hearts out with playoff on the line. The whole North Divison is a “Win and in situation”. Let’s take a look at how this game went down.

The game would start with a kick return touchdown from New Jersey Generals kick returner Cam Echols-Luper. 85-yards to the house for Echols-Luper this was a great starting point for the Generals.

Both offenses were on fire

The Stars offense was on fire the whole game, Case Cookus would pass 25-40 for 263 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. It’s fair to say that the Stars signal caller was cooking. Cookus would finish the day with a QBR of 96.1 and a completion percentage of 62.5%. Despite playing in pain the whole game, Cookus continued to deliver and show the USFL that he is a warrior and wants to win. Philadelphia signal-caller would have seven rushing attempts for 59 yards.

The Stars wide receivers were on fire, Terry Wright, Corey Coleman, Devin Gray, and, Diondre Overton.

New Jerseys offense would perform very well, and De’Andre Johnson would make a return after a scary head injury. Johnson would complete 15 of his 20 passes for 213 yards with a QBR of 109 and a completion percentage of 75%. Great day from the Dual-Threat QB. Darius Victor, the bowling ball would have himself a GREAT game. He had 11 rushing attempts for 51 yards with two touchdowns on the ground. Victor would throw a touchdown pass as well, it was Halfback toss pass; Mike Riley New Jerseys head coach had some tricks in his pocket for sure. Darrel Stewart Jr a General wide receiver would have a HELL of a game. The six foot two inch (6’2”) WR would record three receptions for 109 yards

Generals defense forces turnovers

The Generals defense was forcing fumbles left and right, three Star players fumbled the ball. Hercules Mata’afa would have himself a game, the defensive end would force two fumbles. Mata’afa would be unstoppable, forcing Case Cookus to make mistakes and have great pressure. The Generals would have some struggles on penalties, Lots of holding calls, and Pass interference calls. Multiple of those flags would cause the Stars to come away with points. If the Generals want to win a championship this season then they will have to cut back on the mistakes.

Standout players for Stars

Case Cookus, QB

Cookus played his heart out despite playing in pain. He truly put the team on his back.

Corey Coleman, WR

Coleman was on fire, Nine receptions for 98 yards with a touchdown. He was balling out.

Stanford Samuels III, CB

The cornerback would have eight tackles and one tackle for a loss. Samuels player a good game all around.

Standout players for Generals

De’Andre Johnson, QB

Despite having a head injury, Johnson stepped up big time. Was the leader of the offense and played his heart out.

Darius Victor, RB

Vito was incredible if Victor can play like this at every game. New Jersey is going to be dangerous.

Chris Orr, LB

The linebacker would have nine tackles, a sack and two pass breakups. Orr was flying across the field.

My Final thoughts

Both teams are in a situation called Win and your in, The Stars will face off against the Michigan Panthers. I believe the Stars going to win that matchup, clean up things on defense and this team is going to be dangerous for North teams and South teams.

The Generals will faceoff against the Maulers, Both teams are coming off a win. Should be an action-packed game for USFL fans. This is the last week of the USFL regular season, Playoffs here we come!

Let us know who you think will win!
