Summary:
Senior. OT starter; will occasionally align at TE around the goal line. Big, long, and very athletic starter with above-average pass protection skills and good as a run blocker. Has a difficult time latching onto defenders; improving his hand placement and strike timing would go a long way to helping himself in both phases of the game. In pass protection, he is above average. Plays with a wide base, keeps defenders between his feet, and is very hard to get around just because of his sheer size. Does a good job of squaring up to opposing rushers, plays within his frame without overextending, and has good balance. Displays a good first step. Needs to stay anchored to the ground better; will get bulled and walked back on his toes. As a run blocker, he is good. Displays ability to encircle blocks and seal off the corner, good puller who can move and run in space. Can fire forward to the 2nd level and knock back defenders. Below-average hand placement causes him to miss defenders and fail to latch and drive them off the ball. Doesn’t loaf and plays hard, but would like to see him flash a more consistent mean streak. Can’t coach his size. Has high upside and high character per staff.
Scheme Fit:
OT.
Power Statement:
Ethan is a good run blocker and above-average pass protector. If he improves his hand placement and strike timing, his potential can be through the roof. His size and athleticism are things you can’t coach or ignore.
