What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

Football is really all I have ever known. When I was four my dad tried to sign me up to play football and I wasn’t old enough so I had to play soccer first. The next year I was able to play when I turned five and I haven’t stopped playing since.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My favorite moment happened this past season winning the magic city classic and winning the defensive MVP for the game.

Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?

My dad is the one that inspires me the most. He is the reason why I am the way I am. He always pushes me to be the best that I can be. He always worked so hard to provide for us as young kids and continues to work hard to this day. His work ethic is something that inspires me to work so hard on and off the field.

What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?

Most importantly I’m looking forward to a successful and healthy season. I believe we have a great shot at winning the SWAC championship this year so I’m definitely looking forward to gaining that title.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

It would have to be either Ray Lewis or Luke Kuechly. Both were incredible players and have a great knowledge of the game. They’re also guys I try to model my game off of.

What are your favorite things about playing football for Alabama State?

The chance to get a free education and still be able to play to sport I love. There is no price on that.

What should we know about Colton Adams the person?

I am strong in my faith, I owe it all to God. I am very family oriented. I have a soft spot for my rescue pit bull, his name is Huck. Last but not least, I just got engaged to my lady of 6 years.

What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?

A 4-2-5, I feel like it allows me to play like a true hard nose linebacker. Also I feel like it is a truly balanced defense against the run and pass.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

I have had a lot of challenges over the years with injuries that have affected me on the field and my mindset off the field. I feel like you just have to have a mindset that nothing is going to stop you if you have your mind made up on what you want to accomplish in life.

What would a team get in a player like you?

I feel as if I bring a lot to the team. I take the initiative to be a leader and lead by example. I am a hard worker, team player, a friend, and my team is like family to me. I do what it takes to win and expect the same from my teammates.

What stands out about your film the most?

You can see from my film that I am a hard hitter and I am persistent to chasing the ball. I am constantly communicating with my teammates while I’m on the field. I am a difference maker during games and I think that’s something that really shows up on my tape.

Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?

Irshaad Davis, he came to ASU as a walk on and immediately earned his role as a starter and a leader on the team. He was one of the hardest working guys on the team.
