NFL Draft Rumors: Patriots to target running back over wide receiver in 1st round?
The New England Patriots defense is nasty, and we can all agree they have added a few good options on their offense, but they still could use some wide receivers.
The Patriots did add Mike Gesicki and James Robinson this off-season, but everyone is waiting to see what wide receiver they add to the mix for either Bailey Zappe or Mac Jones to throw at.
Well, wide receiver may not be their biggest need. According to a recent report by Jeff Howe of The Athletic, New England has shown interest in bringing in a “blue-chip” option:
The personnel has turned over, too. They opted for more explosion in the slot with JuJu Smith-Schuster over Jakobi Meyers, and they traded tight end Jonnu Smith before adding Mike Gesicki. They’re building the running game around Rhamondre Stevenson and have quietly shown interest in adding another blue-chip back in the draft.
Who is that blue-chip back? It has to be Bijan Robinson the Texas running back who has been rated as the best running back in the entire NFL Draft. At the moment, the Patriots have Rhamondre Stevenson, Pierre Strong, Ty Montgomery, JJ Taylor, Kevin Harris and James Robinson.
I am not sure they need to draft a running back, in my opinion they better get a wide receiver or two. We will see what happens, but if they believe Bijan will be a super start they need to take him.
