Player Summary

RS SR and 4 yr full-time starter at DL where he aligns along the interior as a 1T, 2i and 3T in the 2-4-5 and 3-3-5 Nickel defense of FLST. He has marginal height, below-average weight, marginal speed and poor length with a stocky, powerful build. He is an average athlete showing solid balance and explosiveness, average lateral quickness and agility with adequate acceleration, COD and play speed. Against the run, he shows solid burst off the ball and fires out low. He displays good UOH as he shoots his hands quickly with above-average timing and placement combined with solid play strength before disengaging from IOL with ordinary UOH and subpar size on base blocks. He plays with solid gap integrity as well as quality stoutness at the POA as he doesn’t give up ground against double-team blocks from C/G with average play strength and physical toughness. He does an above-average job of clogging the running lanes freeing up the LB to make the tackle or locates the RB, shows good instincts as he takes good angles in pursuit and makes the tackle himself. Against the pass, he shows solid quickness in his 1st step, plays at a good pad level and executes a bullrush, rip or swim move with good UOH. Once he disengages from IOL with subpar physical toughness, he demonstrates average ability to pressure the QB with ordinary mobility. He exhibits average lateral quickness and agility as he twists towards the C gap. Plays with a very good motor as he consistently plays until the whistle. He exhibits solid mental toughness as his play improves in big games. He is slow to counter which combined with his poor length causes him to struggle to quickly disengage from OG/OT with quality UOH, length, and grip strength against the run and pass. Lack of quality play speed limits his ability as a pass rusher.

Scheme Fit:

1T/2i in 3-4 or 4-3 playing on 1st or 2nd down.

Power Statement:

Powerful, experienced player who compensates for his poor length with his good UOH and stoutness at the POA. Lack of quality play speed limits his ability as a pass rusher.
