What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
My family members, growing up I was raised in a family of ball players.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
I’m looking to show that I can play with the best of the best. All I need is an opportunity.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
Past Deion Sanders, Present Jalen Ramsey. Just to sit back and pick their brains apart. Understand the game from a different level of the GOATS.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Becoming a starter on varsity for Lufkin High School as a sophomore. Another surreal moment is starting as a true freshman at DB in College after playing quarterback in high school. A moment I also will remember is getting my first collegiate interception and returning it for a touchdown.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My mother Kay Jones inspires me the most. No matter the circumstances she always comes through. She has that no quit mindset which has lead to her youngest.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
Any match zone scheme. To me it helps the defense by eliminating easy access throws. You can also play tricks and mind games with the QB, which I love to do.
What should we know about Kordell Rodgers the person?
Smart and intelligent young man. Great personality, hard worker and a go getter.
What stands out about your film the most?
I’m a playmaker, I’m versatile, I’m a ball hawk and I have elite IQ. I’ve started at every position in the secondary. No matter where I line up on the field I can get the job done.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I just pray to the most high. Everything is out of my control.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team player, a leader, a reliable person. Someone who’s going to come in with his head down ready to work. Someone who’s going to step up when their name and number is called.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
What I love the most about football is the competition. I love to compete. Coming where I come from you have to compete in everyday life. I love competing with someone who’s “better than me”.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
My cousin Javante Ellington. We made each other the players we are today. He’s the hardest worker you’ll find. His routes are phenomenal and his hands are elite. Wish he could of showcased his skills.
