Player Summary:
5th yr GR transfer and 1 yr full-time starter at WR where he aligns in the slot in the West Coast Offense of CAFR. He has poor height with marginal weight and solid speed with a lean, muscular build and poor length. A solid athlete who shows solid balance, acceleration, lateral quickness and agility, average COD and explosiveness with average top end play speed. Transferred from CAUN prior to the 2022 season. He is quick off the LOS and exhibits good FBI as he reads the coverage and finds the soft spot in zone. He exhibits solid hands as he possesses above-average manual dexterity which allows him to possess a catch radius that enables him to catch the ball with his hands away from his body. He does an excellent job of working his way back to the QB when the play breaks down. He adjusts his body well to make the catch on passes thrown low. He displays good contact balance as he breaks tackles from DB with marginal explosiveness. He plays with quality mental toughness as he rises to the occasion in big games. He is an average run blocker overall who lacks consistency in his willingness to block. When he does attempt to block, he shows solid play strength and UOH in his punch, timing and placement as he maintains his block against DB with subpar size and physical toughness. In rare instances when he plays against press-man, his poor length allows DB with solid length, play strength and UOH to slow him down. Subpar in contested catch situations as he struggles to use his body to box out DB with solid size and ball skills while trying to put himself in position to make the catch. Lack of quality play speed and hip fluidity prevents him from separating at the top of his route consistently against Nickel DB with good AA in off-man coverage who can read his hips and stay in front of him. In addition, he struggles to gain significant YAC when DB and LB with solid AA and form tackling ability are in his vicinity.
Scheme Fit:
Slot WR due to subpar size and length which prevents him from beating press coverage against CB with solid length, play strength and UOH. He would also be a positive contributor as a returner on special teams.
Power Statement:
An intelligent player who shows solid hands and is excellent at working back to the QB on broken plays. Struggles to win in contested catch situations and lack of quality play speed prevents him from consistently separating against DB in off-man with good FBI and AA.
