Mike Merritt a former UCF Knight and NFL football player for the Kansas City Chiefs was killed in a crash over the weekend in Orange County, Florida.

Investigators say Merritt was driving in the wrong direction on State Road 417 and was killed after a head-on crash.

Merritt was transported to AdventHealth East Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

During his time as a tight end for UCF, Merritt played in 38 games and recorded 17 receptions and 201 yards.

Merritt was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Please keep the Merritt family in your prayers. He loved his kids and was saving to raise money to buy his son a car.
