Player Summary:

5th yr SR and 3 yr full-time starter at LB where he lines up as a MIKE and an EDGE in a 2 pt stance in the Nickel (2-4-5, 3-3-5, 4-2-5) and Dime (3-2-6) defense of MAHC. He has solid height, marginal weight and average speed with a muscular build. He is a good athlete showing a combination of good balance, COD, explosiveness, acceleration, lateral quickness and agility with good play speed. Against the outside run, he exhibits good range in pursuit due to his above-average lateral quickness and agility. He shows good hip explosiveness as he makes the tackle on RB with solid size and ordinary AA preventing a gain of significant yardage. Against the inside run when lined up as a MIKE, he quickly reads run/pass and locates the RB before displaying good play strength and physical toughness as he stacks and sheds IOL at the POA who possess ordinary aggressiveness before making the tackle on RB with average play speed. He shows above-average ability in man coverage as he uses his good play speed to cover RB with average AA and play speed in the flat and can stay in phase with them on wheel routes. He also does a good job recovering if beaten initially in man coverage. In zone, he gets good depth in his backpedal as he does a solid job of defending the hook zone with his good AA. Plays with an above-average motor as he plays to the whistle consistently. He is a solid pass rusher when blitzing off the edge as he uses his good play speed and/or play strength to beat the OT and exhibits solid closing speed in pursuit before finishing up with a sack or hurry. He exhibits marginal ball skills as he struggles to time his hands accurately to create a PBU. Ordinary form tackler in the open field against RB with good play speed due to him trying to go for the big hit and struggling to consistently use proper form when making the tackle leading to missed tackles. Struggles to consistently read the eyes of the QB when dropping back into zone.

Scheme Fit:

MLB in 4-3

Power Statement:

Athletic, physical player who is above-average in man coverage and is solid against the run overall. Ordinary form tackling ability limits his production against the run.
