Player Summary:

Has the average size of an NFL DS who is a multi-year starter at DS for the MSST defense. He plays in 2 high S look positions to the strength, field side. When the secondary gives a 3 high S look, he is positioned in the middle of the three. He lines up as a DS in the secondary when in a 1 high S look. He also plays in a low-hole S look when required. Shows flexibility in various styles of S play as well as defensive dependability. His motion is fluid and gets into backpedal easily with low signs of hip turning. Especially when defending WR, he uses appropriate hand placement on the route runner and heavily uses the technique of keeping the route runner in front of him with low leverage as well as limited hip-turning running with the route runner. Does not possess blazing speed and has limited explosiveness. Is intuitive and knowledgeable of field awareness with minimum errors in misalignment. At times has a tendency not to be set at the snap, giving a form of a disadvantage when playmaking (i.e. a little late in run support, and a little off-timing in getting over the top of the WR route.). Average run support has the ability to see run and come downhill giving decent pursuit. Has an average pad level and is more of rallying to the ball than aggressively assisting on tackles. Will initiate tackle in an open field when 1 on 1 with the ball carrier with below-average tackling form. In pass coverage, 2 shell look has a good alignment to the LOS and appropriate depth when the ball is snapped. When in pass coverage has fair acceleration (not explosive) when breaking on the route defending, attempting to defend the receiver. Keeps the man in front in short route coverage, not a lot of turning of direction with the route runner. Possessing a competitive spirit, playing within the boundaries of athletic abilities.

Scheme Fit:

1 High, 2 High, 3 High, Nickel, Dime

Power Statement:

A good size DS has a body frame for more development of physical strength. Has the upside of improving the cover technique. Skills are more of a cover S, play as an FS than SS. Shows leadership in the secondary, possessing a timely reaction to differentiating a pass or run.
