What if the Patriots traded head coach Bill Belichick? What would they get in exchange for him?
Let’s face it, Bill Belichick’s play call last week has to make you wonder. I do not think Robert Kraft would ever fire Bill Belichick but could he trade him?
I mean the Patriots traded for Belichick to get him to New England. They gave up a first rounder, a fourth rounder and a seventh rounder for the legendary coach. The Jets traded back a fifth and a seventh along with Belichick and let’s face it the rest is history. Belichick is definitely one of the greatest head coaches ever which makes you wonder how much a team would be willing to give up to get his services right now.
I mean back in 2004, the Raiders traded Jon Gruden to the Buccaneers 2 first round picks and a 2nd round pick. The Buccaneers gave the Raiders 8 million in cash and get this, Gruden would end up beating the Raiders in the Championship game to win the Super Bowl for the Bucs in his first year.
The other coaches traded were Bill Parcels, Herm Edwards and Mike Holmgren. If Jon Gruden is fetching two firsts and a 2nd, what would the GOAT Bill Belichick bring in?
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio thinks the Patriots could be moving that way.
“Belichick surely wouldn’t be fired. Instead, word more likely would be circulated that Belichick is available to be hired away from the Patriots for fair compensation,” Florio wrote. “And, surely, another team would be willing to give it a whirl with Belichick.
Florio noted that Belichick would have to be willing to coach elsewhere in that scenario, but the longtime NFL insider feels things are “moving that way.”
Do you think the Patriots would ever do something like this?
