Player Summary:
RSR in 2022 transferred from GAST where he is one of the top WR’s in GAST history. Sam Pinckney has the height and weight of an above-average NFL WR. Pickney’s style of play is favorable of Davante Adams, a possession WR type with speed being deceptive than seen as a speedster. Plays X and Z can be seen playing only these two positions at the next level. Not a quick twitch change in out of breaks type WR, more of a north south pass catcher with a long stride. Has the ability to get in open spaces where his above-average body type gives defenders difficulty making a play on the ball while he focuses on making the catch. Not a route running technician who breaks on a dime giving precise cuts, runs routes rounded creating space with average athleticism shielding his body away from defender giving the QB a target. Shows physicality when blocking, below-average technique but has the ability to keep defender from coming off block making the play. Lines up majority of the time against zone coverages, when stemming does a good job deceiving defenders from detecting routes by not showing too much movement going into a break. A sure-handed catcher who catches the ball away from his body and pulls it in. Can be more efficient in the open field after YAC with a little more development of physical strength, as well as use of hands to defend defenders off body while attempting to tackle him. Possesses field awareness of the secondary coverage, appears to have the green light to shorten routes, change initial route depending on the coverage. Does it pretty effective. Shows a win attitude when on the field, embraces the competition. Plays the same level against a sub par or above par team.
Scheme Fit:
Spread Offense, Pro Set, Multiple Set
Power Statement:
Has upside to become a deep ball threat, needs development more of use of hand technique against defenders especially when hand checked, held. Has the presence of mind of playing to his strengths, using his size and field awareness of secondary coverage. Definition of route running, YAC, would induce more of his strengths and capabilities for the next level.
