Player Summary:
5th yr SR and 2 yr full-time starter at CB where he is responsible for covering the #1 WR in the 4-2-5 and 3-3-5 Nickel defense of FLMI. He possesses very good height, average weight with subpar speed and a lean build with quality length. He is an ordinary athlete showing a combination of solid acceleration and COD, average balance, ordinary explosiveness, lateral quickness and agility with average play speed. He displays good ability in press-man. He is patient with his hands and matches the feet of XWR with ordinary AA and size using his quality length and active hands to control the route. He displays solid awareness in zone as he reads the QB and reacts quickly to the ball when thrown underneath. In off-man, he reads the route of the XWR with adequate play speed and stays in phase on underneath routes. He possesses above-average ball skills as he locates the ball and tracks it well in the air before timing his hands to disrupt the trajectory of the ball for a PBU and can extend his body while showing good hands as he comes down with the INT. Quality mental toughness enables him to elevate his game in the redzone. Lack of quality play speed prevents him from staying in phase against WR with good play speed on go routes while in off-man and zone. Exhibits tight hips as he turns and bails in zone coverage. Ordinary lateral quickness and agility enables WR with good route running ability and fluid hips to separate when running dig and slant routes. Subpar against the run due to lack of quality play speed preventing him from making the tackle in time. He’s an ordinary open field tackler who struggles to consistently take the correct angle in pursuit and use good form when attempting to make the tackle leading to a missed or broken tackle. Struggles to shed stalk blocks from XWR with good play strength and UOH in his punch, placement and timing due to his marginal play strength.
Scheme Fit:
CB in press-man heavy defense.
Power Statement:
Intelligent, mentally tough player who is at his best in press coverage and shows solid ball skills. Subpar against the run and covering go routes due to lack of quality play speed.
