Player Summary:
Senior, 4-year starter, with good size and AA, putting his best work on film through the run game, playing primarily as a SS in the box. Attains below-average height, with good weight, thick chest, muscular defined arms, broadened shoulders, thick muscular thighs, and thin defined calves. Has good play strength due to his ability to shed/disengage from bigger blockers and play with violence amongst the OL. Good play speed due to good burst/explosion, acceleration, COD, fluidity, lateral agility, and balance. Good run stopper, due to good instincts, can diagnose the run quickly, then display good burst/explosion and COD to close at a rapid pace downhill on the ball carrier. Good efficient tackler in the box or out in space, displaying good lateral agility to mirror the ball carrier’s feet, then wrap to the ground, however, does not run his feet on contact, allowing ball carriers to fall forward. Good last line of defense as he has good feet and hips to make him a tough defender to juke. Flawed in the passing game, in terms of coverage. Displays solid Man Coverage in Off giving him more time to react to the route, keeping eyes on the beltline to stick with TEs for the most part. Poor in Man Coverage Press Jam, as he lunges while throwing a stab at the LOS, allowing himself to fall behind, then displaying poor recovery. Good in short Zone Coverage, as he can fill voids and gain depth to disrupt throwing windows. Poor in deep Zone Coverage due to poor Mental Processing of route concepts. Displays good range and fluidity to break on the ball, bursting to the catch point, however, his play recognition from deep Zone is poor. Good blitz ability in run and pass game, displaying good timing of the snap, and good ability to finish on the ball carrier or take a flat/tight path, with good finish ability on the QB. Good competitive toughness as he displays good physicality and violence, amongst the OL, playing relentlessly and bigger than he is with good play strength.
Scheme Fit:
SS primarily within the box.
Power Statement:
Christian Izien is a physical competitor with good AA, good ability to stop the run, good blitz ability, and solid ability to play Man Coverage who can be an asset to help an NFL team win.
