PITTMAN’S POCKET: HBCU Football Week 6 Review
Everyone is talking about Deion Sanders and Eddie Robinson but failed to talk about the football players! Brian Pittman of NFL Draft Diamonds breaks down the rest of what happened in HBCU football!
There was a lot of fuel this week from Eddie George and his Tennessee State Tigers. Coach George answered with an 41-17 victory, and it was a great game for the Tigers.
Southern beat-up Prairie View, and The Jaguars dominated all 4 quarters in a 45-13 slump fest. Coach Dooley made sure Prairie View paid.
Benedict College defeated Miles College making a very good impression this season with an 6-0 start.
Virginia Union dominated Elizabeth City State University with a shutout, and Sophomore running back Jada Byers had clinched the 1,000-yard rushing mark in week 6.
Alabama A&M went in Double OT with Hue Jackson and Grambling State and was rewarded with an 37-31 victory.
FAMU won an ugly win against South Carolina State University, in a 20-14 slugfest.
And yes, finally the game of the week did not disappoint. Jackson State vs Alabama State faced off before ASU’s homecoming. Alabama State played JSU well in the first half 10-6, but Coach Prime talked his team into finishing, in which they did in an ugly fashion.
Jackson State prevailed to an 26-12 victory, but at the end of the game, tempers flaired when Coach Eddie Robinson did not want to hug Coach Prime but did shake his hand.
Words were exchanged and both coaches threw their hands up and went separate ways. Coach Eddie explained his reasons.
He added that Jackson State should have taken a knee in the final minute of the game rather than trying to score more points with its backup quarterback. Robinson said he would always shake an opposing coach’s hand but saw “no need for an embrace” with Sanders.
Also said coach Prime was not SWAC.
How did Prime respond?
He has been wearing a hoodie all week saying He is SWAC! So HBCU football is BACK!!! I cannot wait until Week 7.
