Player Summary:
A sixth-year graduate player (redshirt, 2017) and three-season-straight team captain at NC State. Presents a tall, profoundly built, muscular upper body with long, thick arms and tough, lengthy legs. Through seven games in 2021 (season-ending knee injury v. Miami), aligned in the box primarily through 340 of his 342 defensive snaps. Plays with an attentive head-on-a-swivel with exceptional eye discipline. Intelligent athlete that shadows the ball well, maintaining good leverage and angles on the play. Looks to be a sufficient communicator before and in play, having pointed out several receiving lanes and check downs to other LBs on film. Patient. Strong-bodied, power stepping kind of gap filler, does a good job stuffing gap assignments. Can overcommit to a missed read or play, causing him to overshoot his gap and leave the play. Will get swallowed in the mess, takes too long to get off some blocks. Heavy-footed at times, can get tangled and unbalanced. Sufficient penetration in the pass rush, does a good job using blockers outside shoulder to control the block and edge. Does a good job maneuvering a pile in the pass rush and getting after the ball carrier. Not as sudden as you’d like. Can get bendy and durable in the pass rush, has a lot of natural length. Average coverage in the underneath zones. Textbook technique when covering TE/RB/checkdown. Does have some issues kicking into open-field coverage.
Scheme Fit:
ILB in a 3-4 scheme
Power Statement:
Aside from lots of natural physical gifts, Moore is an intelligent, big-bodied run stuffer that does a sufficient job in coverage underneath or the flats. Would benefit from expanding his block-shedding toolbox.
