Player Summary:

The 5th year redshirt senior, 2022 team captain, and 2-time FCS All-American aligned at RT in 2021. Now starts at LT for SDST in a zone run and gun scheme. Projects as a RT at the next level. AA is average with solid play speed, ordinary lateral agility, explosion, and balance, with marginal vertical agility and recovery twitch. Physically he’s a lanky tackle. Possesses good height and arm length, with subpar weight, and a lower half that includes high hips and a narrow, slender base. As a pass blocker, he is decent. Getting out of his stance, he’s sufficient. Gains solid depth on deeper vertical sets with average quickness and quality lower half length. Setting short against 4 and 5 tech DL does a good job establishing and maintaining ground early. Pad level is subpar as high hips and narrow base lead to below-average flexibility and ability to bend. Ability to mirror EDGE defenders with good athleticism is average. Sticks with 5 tech and wide nine DL on their first initial move decently, utilizing good length and average lateral agility. When initiating contact, displays good pre punch patience, not exposing hands until defender is in proximity. Punch has solid power and quickness showing sufficient upper body strength. Location of punch on 4 and 5 tech defenders in short sets is decent, a little high due to high pad level, mainly inside. Ability to anchor is average due to high pad level, marginal bend, and good ankle flection. Compensates with above-average arm length and solid ability to re-establish hand placement, inhibiting power rushers from getting to chest. As a run blocker, he is sufficient. Displays solid athleticism pulling across formation, working his way up to LBs, and working his way down LOS to 4i and 3 techs. Takes good angles and displays solid latch washing defenders down inside. Body positioning when getting to second level is sufficient, shows decent ability to wall off and impede progress of LBs with average athleticism. Struggles against good athletes on the edge. Ordinary balance becomes marginal as he leans out of frame and refrains from moving feet when pushing defenders around the pocket. Ability to recover and vertical agility after overset or DE counter move to the inside becomes marginal resulting from excessive lean.

Scheme Fit:

Backup, developmental RT in a zone run heavy scheme.

Power Statement:

Tackle who utilizes good length well as a pass blocker, sufficient athleticism in the run game, and has the leadership accolades to be a solid, developmental addition to any OL room. Needs to add weight and improve discipline to play within frame against good athletes on the edge.
