Player Summary:
5th yr SR and 4 yr starter at EDGE in the 4-2-5 and 3-3-5 Nickel defense of OHTO where he lines up predominantly as a 7T and Wide 9 and in a 2 pt stance as well. Possesses poor height and weight with elite speed and a lean, muscular build. He is a very good athlete showing a combination of very good acceleration, explosiveness, lateral quickness, and agility with good COD and solid balance with very good play speed. Against the pass, he shows very good get-off with elite UOH as he delivers a well-timed punch to the frame of the OT or TE. Converts speed to power while displaying good play strength and physical toughness as he executes a bullrush, rip, or longarm technique before shedding the block against OT with good size and adequate UOH. He takes a solid angle in pursuit of the QB before finishing up with a sack. Effectively uses his very good lateral quickness and agility to twist inside towards the A gap. In zone coverage, he gets good depth in his backpedal and effectively patrols the flat with his quality AA while constantly reading the QB. In man, he shows good ability to stay in phase with TE and slot WR with solid size and AA on flat and out routes as well as similar RB on wheel routes. Against the run, he displays good instincts as he reads run/pass, and exhibits excellent UOH to shed base and reach blocks from TE and OT with adequate size, UOH, physical toughness, and marginal leverage. He shows excellent range making tackles outside the tackle box. Plays with an elite motor never giving up on a play. Exhibits above-average competitive toughness both physically at the POA and mentally as he plays at a high level late in close games. Subpar hip and ankle flexion prevent him from effectively bending at the apex combined with adequate counter ability against the pass resulting in him struggling to quickly disengage from OT with a good bend, UOH, and play strength. In addition, his subpar flexibility prevents him from playing at a good pad level consistently against the run.
Scheme Fit:
EDGE in 3-4
Power Statement:
Athletic, experienced, tough player who possesses poor size but makes up for it with his quality talent. Subpar flexibility prevents him from playing at a good pad level consistently.
