Former Iowa high school football player shot and killed by police suffered from CTE
The family of Scott Heisler found out recently that their son had been struggling with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy or CTE a brain disease.
Back in 2020, Heisler who had a no-contact order with his ex-wife reached for a gun when he was shot and killed by police.
The police said that Heisler reached out to his wife’s new boyfriend and made threats to him which broke the no-contact order from the courts. When police arrived he reached for a pellet gun and was shot by the police.
The family of Heisler has never blamed the police for the shooting. Their son struggled with alcoholism, bipolar disorder, and was devastated by a recent divorce.
The former standout high school football player in Iowa went on to be a Marine before returning home to Iowa. He competed in triathlons and marathons around the country.
