HBCU Football Game To Watch: Jackson State vs. FAMU will be an instant classic
Highly anticipated Game Jackson State vs FAMU, September 4th, Miami, Florida. 🍊 Orange and Blossom game. There will be band and fan interaction before the game, which brings the surrealness of a SWAC conference game.
Players to watch
Isaiah Land DE FAMU 6’4 230 #31 SR – The Buck Buchanan Award Winner in 2021 entered the transfer portal for a brief second, but decided to ultimately stay at FAMU. Land posted offers from Kentucky, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Texas, Memphis, and UCF earlier this week, but apparently decided not to move up to the FBS.
Xavier Smith FAMU WR 5’10 190 #19 SR – Xavier Smith was named to the Walter Payton Award Watch List after leading the Rattlers in receiving in 2021 with 713 yards. Smith’s 713 receiving yards were the sixth most in the SWAC. Smith also ranked 21st in the nation averaging 5.8 receptions per game, and seventh in the SWAC in all-purpose yards per game (91.45).
BJ Bohler DB FAMU 5’9 180 #11 RSR – BJ Bohler is the top returning cornerback in HBCU football, coming off a season with four interceptions, 52 tackles, two pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. With last year’s two starting safeties gone from the secondary, expect Bohler to take on a larger role in 2022.
Aubrey Miller LB JSU 6’1 245 #45 SR – In 2021, Aubrey Miller led the SWAC with 109 tackles while adding 11.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. He’s one of the most consistent linebackers in the FCS and leads a Jackson State defense that’s poised to again be one of the subdivision’s best.
De’Jahn Warren JSU CB 6’1 190 #4 SR – Warren was the nation’s top junior college cornerback prospect in 2021 and flipped his commitment to JSU on signing day after initially picking Georgia. At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, he has the measurables and upside that led major college programs to recruit him.
Travis Hunter JSU CB/WR 6’1 180 #12 FR – He was the top prospect in the entire country. He lands at Jackson State and everyone is going to be watching what he can do this year. Hunter will likely play offense and defense. He was already named to the All-American list prior to him playing one snap in college football. So the hype is there.
