16-year-old Cleveland high school football player Devonte Johnson shot and killed
Glenville High School football player Devonte Johnson was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon and left for death.
Police responded to a shooting around 4:00 pm, and when they arrived they found Johnson on the ground in a field and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Cleveland Police identified the 16-year-old as Devonte Johnson, of Cleveland.
A possible second victim was driven away from the area in a private car, police said.
Glenville High School football coach and Ginn Academy director Ted Ginn Sr. said that Johnson played sporadically on the football team last season and Ginn was trying to bring him back this year, not just for his talent, but also to give him direction and support.
