Player Summary:
RS JR and 2 yr full-time starter at DT for TXEP where he lines up predominantly in a 1T and 3T in the 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 nickel defense across multiple fronts. Transferred from Iowa Western CC prior to the 2020 season. He has adequate height, ordinary weight, and subpar speed with a thick build. He is an above-average athlete with good explosiveness, lateral quickness, and agility with solid COD, adequate acceleration, and balance with solid top-end play speed. Exhibits solid ability against the run overall. Fires out quickly using good lateral quickness and agility with quick, active hands to defeat the reach block from IOL with adequate AA while he locates the ball carrier on outside zone runs. Displays above-average instincts while taking the correct angle in pursuit before finishing up with the tackle behind the LOS for a TFL or after a short gain. Against the pass, he shows a good burst off the ball and possesses a very good repertoire of pass rush moves as he attacks the OL. He also shows impressive athleticism while executing a spin move or twisting towards the C gap. Plays with a very good motor as he plays to the whistle consistently. Shows good physical toughness as he plays with grit and tenacity at the POA, especially when engaged in a 1 on 1 situation. Adequate play strength and inconsistent hand placement prevent him from quickly disengaging from the double team and base blocks against G and T with solid length, play strength, and UOH. He is an adequate pass rusher overall. On passing plays when he is unable to get his pad level down, he will struggle to effectively push the pocket against IOL with good flexibility. Lack of quality play speed, acceleration, and shed ability prevents him from putting himself in a position to rush the QB consistently.
Scheme Fit:
IDL in a one-gap system due to his explosiveness and ordinary size.
Power Statement:
An explosive, physically tough player who is solid against the run. Will maximize their potential if he can be quicker at disengaging from OL.
