Seahawks running back Chris Carson has retired from the NFL at the age of 27
Chris Carson was a beast on the football field, but off the field his body was taking a beating. The 27-year-old football star for the Seahawks retired from the NFL today.
Chris Carson suffered a neck injury back in the 2021 season and he recently failed a physical with the team, which ultimately led him to hang up his cleats from the NFL, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media Insiders.
The decision comes after the running back failed his physical, Rapoport added. The team will release him with a failed physical designation, which allows the RB to receive injury protection benefits.
Carson was optimistic he would be able to return this year.
“Oh, we still going right now,” Carson said at the time. “I see myself playing until I feel like stopping. My mindset is never to give up. So, I’m staying positive like I said, and continue to fight and get back onto the field.”
Carson is making the right decision if he is still in pain. It is a shocker because he is so young, but his neck is needed to live a great life. In five seasons with the NFL, the 7th round pick from Oklahoma State was a very underrated prospect who had a solid career. He finished his career with 3,502 yards and 24 touchdowns. He ran for 1,100 two years in a row back in 2018 and 19.
