Player Summary:
RS SR and 2 yr full time starter at TE in the wide zone offense of TXBA. He lines up predominantly inline as a Y but will also line up occasionally at H-Back and in the slot. He has good height and weight with adequate speed and an athletic build. He is a solid athlete with good lateral quickness and agility, solid balance, adequate acceleration, explosiveness and COD with ordinary top end play speed. Exhibits solid football intelligence as he reads man/zone. He is a good route runner displaying solid hip fluidity breaking off his stem on a 90 degree angle on drag and out routes. Tracks the ball well in the air and adjusts his body to passes thrown low. A good hands catcher with quality manual dexterity that enables him to catch the ball away from his body. Demonstrates good ability in contested catch situations as he uses his body to shield off DB and LB putting himself in good position to make the catch. While run blocking, fires out low and quickly gets hip to hip with the OT on combo blocks against the 5T. As he peels off the combo, he effectively blocks the OLB with adequate size and AA generating movement at the POA with solid foot drive and good timing and placement in his hands. While blocking in space, uses good length and leverage to overpower ILB and DB with ordinary size and play strength. Good competitive toughness allows him to rise to the occasion in the red zone as a receiver and blocker. Lack of quality play speed prevents him from consistently separating at the top of his route against SAF in off coverage, breaking open against DB/LB down the seam in man coverage and gaining significant YAC. Adequate power in his hand punch combined with ordinary play strength allows EDGE with quality play strength and physical toughness to shed his block in 1 on 1 situations.
Scheme Fit:
Y TE in a zone heavy scheme as he plays well in space as a blocker.
Power Statement:
An intelligent, mentally tough player who is an effective run blocker and reliable receiver. Lack of quality play speed prevents him from stretching the defense vertically.
