What sets you apart from other wide receivers?

I believe that I have elite speed which sets me apart from most other wide receivers. I also pride myself on my route running and ability to make the first person miss. YAC and RAC.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

I have a couple moments that really mean a lot to me. Winning our central jersey pop warner championship meant so much to me and really set the foundation for me as a football player. In high school we made it to the state championship twice but fell short both times. Those losses taught me a lot about myself and football. These last 3 years at Holy Cross have definitely meant so much to me bringing in 3 straight conference championships. Football has been filled with so many life lessons for me.

What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

I really bring all of the energy. I love being out there with my brothers. Especially at wide receiver, it’s like putting on a show. Each play we’re bringing it to the other team, going crazy. Making plays, scoring touchdowns, you gotta love it. We work too hard not to have fun in between those lines. I really get to be myself out there.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

I’d choose Odell easily. He works super hard and has a lot of fun while doing it. He’s really a special talent too, so I’d hope to pick up some of his habits working beside him.

What is your favorite route and why?

My favorite route is either a big post or a slot fade. Both are a lot of fun to run and have a higher chance of me taking it the distance.

What should we know about Ayir Asante the person?

I believe that the work will always come first and things do not happen by accident. I will outwork everyone, lead my brothers, and have fun while doing it. On and off the field.

What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

It came down to football or soccer going into high school. It just made more sense for me to play football, there’s a bit more opportunity. Still love soccer just as much though, wish I could play both.

What are your favorite things about playing football for Holy Cross?

The fans, The city of Worcester, and the Alumni.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

I have a really good support system that I reach out to when things get tough. When I can’t reach out I write in my journal to clear my mind.

What would a team get in a player like you?

They would be getting a relentless competitor. A grinder, hard worker ready to earn everything. A play maker who turns nothing in to something consistently. Ability to play multiple special teams, return, and do whatever a team needs even defense.

What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?

I’m looking forward to seeing our offense takeoff this year. Our defense has been so consistent and reliable. It’s time that we step up on offense. I believe that’s what will push us to taking that leap.

Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?

Spencer Gilliam is probably the most underrated on offense. Walter Reynolds is the most underrated on defense. What they both bring to the team is immeasurable and they honestly don’t get the credit they deserve.
