What is your favorite route and why?
I’d like to say my favorite route is a corner post because of the many combinations of ways there is to run the route, if you understand the route then it’s a high chance of you having success unless coverage wins.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
Randy Moss. I want to know what it feels like to be one of the best to ever do it and to be able to soak up the knowledge from a legend.
What sets you apart from other wide receivers?
There’s not a skill position that I can’t play and be productive at on the field. My twitch is my strength as well as my vertical along with my IQ of the game. My mentality is what makes me different than most.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
One of my favorite moments from my football life was receiving my first offer because I knew that I would have a chance to have my college paid for, that’s the moment I knew for sure my life was going to change and God had a plan for me. Another moment would be catching 2 picks and scoring in the same game against Marshall when I was in high school to help come back and win.
How do you prepare for games?
Before games I usually listen to music all day before a game. Music always is the way I prepare for anything because it clears my mind and blocks out all distractions. I make sure I reach out to my family before games to let them know I’m locked in. Physically, I like to get a feel of the surface I’m playing on so I usually go out and sit and lay on the field for a good 30 minutes before getting my catches in with the QB. It’s a game I’ve been playing my whole life so it doesn’t take me a lot to prepare because I work my a** off so I come into the game confident with no doubt.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Benny Sapp, Dom Williams, Sam Schnee, Jevon Brekke. I watch how those guys put in work everyday when the lights off and I’ve seen and played with the best of the best and I know for a fact that they can play with whoever.
What should we know about Quan Hampton the person?
God, family, and football is what I’ve always wrapped my life around so it’s always a blessing to be able to do what I love and give back to others what I’ve learned while maturing in life. God has a plan for me so I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me. I live to impact those around me in whatever way I can.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
I’m looking forward to it being my best year since I’ve started playing this game, I’ve had to overcome to many obstacles and I believe this will be my best year yet. It’s my last year to compete with the guys here at Northern Iowa so I’m committed to giving them all I have to go and get us a National Championship this year. I won’t speak on numbers but cream always rise to the top so looking forward to a great season with the guys!
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I pray, I lean on God when things are going my way and when they aren’t. I lean on my family and my closest friends as well, I’ve been through so much so I know there’s not a situation I can’t get through but when you got the right people around you it’ll make that much more smooth to get through. I am never alone when I’m going through challenges because if I was I probably would’ve folded a long time ago.
What would a team get in a player like you?
Someone whose versatile and gonna put my head down and work. I bring positive energy with me everyday. I’m all about winning and will do whatever I gotta do to make an impact. I challenge people around me because I expect them to do the same for me to help keep me on my game.
What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?
Being a student of the game. If you bless the game, the game will bless you. My WR coach Emmett Jones always made sure I had that understood. Everybody is good but I feel like having knowledge is what separates the good from the great. Being able to play multiple positions for a guys like me is key.
What are your favorite things about playing football for Northern Iowa?
My favorite things about Northern Iowa would be the guys I play beside. Coach Farley and Northern Iowa gave me a second chance at making my dreams come true and it’ll always mean everything to me. Team full of humble guys with chips on their shoulders who come ready to work no matter the circumstances and these are the same guys I love going to war with. Spencer Brown stopped traffic one day to give me a brand new pair of gloves when I first got here without me asking but that just lets you know how much these guys look out for each other and it was easy to come in and be apart of this culture because of the welcoming environment we have here at Northern Iowa.
