Former BC Lions wide receiver Josh Boden was convicted of second-degree murder after he viciously beat his ex-girlfriend, choked her, and then staged the scene in an effort to make her death look like an accident.

Boden, 35, was found guilty of the second-degree murder of Kimberly Hallgarth. The 33-year-old was killed in 2009 in the Burnaby, B.C., home she shared with her three-year-old daughter.

Boden’s charge carries a maximum LIFE prison sentence, and he went in front of a judge this week to see when his first parole hearing would be. He was hoping it would be in 12 years, but the judge ordered he would not be eligible for parole for 14 years.

This is a win for the family who is greiving the loss of their loved one.
