What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I loved how competitive the sport was for people of all sizes. If you can play you can’t be denied no matter your size. My first love was basketball being completely honest, my step dad signed me up for football in the 6th grade and since then my passion for the game has continued to grow.

What sets you apart from other defensive backs?

I play with the mentality of having heart over height. It’s not what’s on the outside but what’s on the inside I’ve always believed. I tend to focus on precision when it comes to my technique and movement(smooth is fast). “No wasted movement” my attention to detail is what separates me from others.. but to me I try not to compare myself to others. I like to track my progress and beat out who I was yesterday. I have been blessed to be apart of the programs I have been in over the years. They are the reason I have evolved into the player I am today.

What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

On the field I am relentless but calm and collected. As a DB we have to have a confident aura to us. I try to motivate my teammates through my actions on the field. I’m a big believer in ACTION.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Tyrann Mathieu easily, he was relentless throughout his entire career, he played with heart! Instinctive type of player. He’s someone I’ve related my game to as well being the same size. He has had ups in his career and downs and still managed to overcome them. I would try to get as much game and advice from him as I could.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

I’ll speak on my most recent highlight of my career. Last season my team went on to have an undefeated season and got to compete in the national championship. Though we did not come out how we wanted the lessons we learned along the way were priceless and I don’t regret any moment of it.

How do you prepare for games?

My preparation starts the night before, I try to clear my mind and put the right things in my body before I go to sleep to wake up feeling my best. The day of I wake up and take a cold shower then meditate. We’ll usually have meetings going before we go to the field and from there I’m locked in. My focus in my preparation is to clear my mind and remain calm.

What should we know about Demareo Luckett the person?

I come from a hard working family, it’s in my blood to work for the results I want. I hold myself to a very high standard, I am determined and passionate about everything I put my energy into.

What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

Health, awareness, IQ, great technique and execution.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

In every program I’ve played in at my position it’s drilled in our head to have short term memory, to have a next play mentality. I apply this to all my life challenges whether they turn out good or bad. I never want to get too high in my accomplishments or too low in my losses, it’s important to keep a balance between the two.

What would a team get in a player like you?

Someone who will not be outworked, someone who is willing to learn and take coaching. Someone who is striving to perfect his craft everyday.

What is your favorite coverage and why?

Man coverage, it’s 1 on 1. I love getting the opportunity to follow a receiver. Man coverages is the most competitive coverage to me. Your coaches have to trust you to be confident in that call.

What are you looking to improve the most this upcoming season?

We came up very short of the national championship last year, finishing is a huge focus going into next season. I’m always trying perfect my precision in this game. By that I mean making the right decision every time through how I move, think, and execute.
