What sets you apart from other wide receivers?
What sets me apart from other receivers in this draft class would be my ability to adapt and fit into any situation given in order to succeed on the field and off. Another thing would be my suddenness at the top of routes while going in and out of breaks. Those two adding up to me being a playmaker in any position on the offense slot, outside, single backside, in the backfield, you name it I can get it done.
What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I fell in love with the game. I remember my first little league game, my first carry ever was a 90 yard touchdown run, pitch to the outside. I just remember in that moment feeling free and being on that field feeling like I could be myself. After that, it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do and be. I’ve been obsessed with the game ever since.
What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?
The energy I bring is unmatched, I bring a spark to whichever unit offense or special teams. I’m the guy that gets the party started out on the field.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
It would Antonio Brown, a generational talent who had an unusual path to the top all while being “undersized”. I love his mentality and he absolutely has some knowledge that I could benefit from.
How do you prepare for games?
I prepare for games by watching film on my opponent and their entire defense. I also mentally prepare by rewatching my own highlights and the scripted plays from practice that week over and over again. Then to top it off I’ll watch some highlights of my favorites players ever, while of course taking the steps to be physically ready as well.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Favorite moments have to be beating Augustana our rival in college and beating Willowbrook in high school. As a collection those are some of the greatest team moments I’ve ever felt in my career.
What should we know about Darrion Conrad the person?
You should know that he cares a lot about people. About people and the less fortunate are my motivation.
What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?
Having a great mental state of mind, clear of distractions and knowing your opponent, are two that I pay very close attention to.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
Challenges are always dealt with from the mindset of a Christian and with the knowing of any battle or situation put in front of me by god is a situation we can win. Just continue being led by God.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team would be a getting an exceptional receiver, with an elite level of grit and instincts. A natural born leader who is a diamond in the rough.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
Well I looking forward to making some big plays on offense and leading a new younger team into this season, with me being a new player on Dakota State’s roster.
If there was a billboard with 5 of your traits on it which 5 traits would be up there?
Resiliency, leader, confidence, optimism and humor.
