Police are still searching for the killer of a former high school standout linebacker in Georgia

Derricus Smith was a star linebacker for Rome High School and was named an All-Area Football player back in 2018. Smith helped lead Rome to two state championships. Now, his family needs our help.

Rome Police are looking for any leads to help find someone associated with killing the former standout linebacker. When police arrived on the scene, Smith was lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. According to police, Smith was shot and killed around 2:09 am on Perkins Street on May 21st.

The police have been going door to door in Georgia trying to find the gunman, but have not had any luck.

Rome police said the incident stemmed from an argument that turned physical. Witnesses on scene told investigators a black Dodge Challenger with several people jumping into it was seen leaving the area before they arrived. 

Several names were mentioned in talking to witnesses, but no arrests have been made at this time according to police.
