Former Toledo football player Jahneil Douglas’ killer was found not guilty of murder

Jahneil Douglas a 22-year-old defensive lineman with the Toledo Rockets, was shot and killed back in July, and his killer has now beat the murder charge.

Jahneil Douglas was shot and killed outside of Gino’s Pizza after a fight in July of 2020. The man arrested for killing Jahneil was Michael Mitchell Jr. a former professional basketball player.

The 26-year-old stands accused of fatally shooting Jahneil Douglas, 22, a defensive lineman for the University of Toledo’s football team, in July 2020. He argued from the stand Thursday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court that he did so in self-defense.

 A jury returned a verdict in the trial against a Toledo man accused of killing a University of Toledo football player, according to ABC 13 of Toledo.

Michael Mitchell Jr. was found not guilty of murder and was found not guilty on a felonious assault charge in connection to the fatal shooting of Jahneil Douglas, 22.

Mitchell was found guilty of a felonious assault charge with a gun specification. He faces 2-8 years in prison. His sentencing is set for June 10.
