Tennessee High School football player Eric Bright drowned after jumping from old railroad bridge

Cheatham County Central is mourning the death of a football player this morning, after he tragically drowned in a creek near the Sycamore Recreation Area in Cheatham County.

Eric Bright a junior football player lost his life after jumping from an old railroad bridge at Sycamore Creek.

According to News 2 Eric and some friends were out swimming when they decided to climb over a guardrail near the railroad bridge and jump into the water. Officials said Bright was the last one to jump in the water and came up struggling for a short amount of time before he went back underwater.

Bright was getting ready to transition into his senior year at the school.

“Today, our family suffered a tragedy. An outstanding young man lost his life in a swimming incident,” Head Football Coach Gary Halstead said on a GoFundMe page he created for the teen’s family. “I am at a loss for works. We all lost a friend, an athlete and an inspiration.”
